How I Got Here: Tackling the "Sunday Scaries"
Andrew on dropping out of MIT Sloan and Sidney shares her journey from consultant to doctor
Good morning!
I remember the first time my Monday started to creep into my Sunday. It was a dreadful feeling that pulled me out of weekend bliss and into the work week too many hours too soon.
One antidote I’ve found to this 21st century problem is to work on something you care deeply about — even in the form of a side hustle or a hobby. My work on How I Got Here has helped me understand that if I am working on something that matters and resonates to me, that dread melts away into excitement and energy instead.
This week, we share two career stories that talk about finding meaningful work and what it means for how you feel about your career and work week.
On our latest episode of How I Got Here, Andrew Noh, co-founder and COO of Finch Therapeutics shares his story of finding a job and company that he loves working for so much that he’s never had the Sunday Scaries.
I admire Andrew’s willingness to pursue something meaningful in his career, even in the face of financial challenges. Listen to the full episode to hear how Andrew found a group of people and mission that so inspired him, he dropped out half way through his MBA at MIT Sloan and reneged on sponsorship from Bain & Company.

This week, we are featuring a career story from Sidney Hilker. She talks about how her journey from management consulting to medicine isn’t that far of a leap.
“I was at the beginning of a long journey. One of the reasons I love both consulting and medicine is that they both rely on functioning teams. Every person has a role. At this point, mine was to ask for the phone and dial it. The feeling of helplessness was motivating. I wanted to be the person who knew how to manage the room to save this patient’s life.”
Check out the full story on our blog here.
Sidney Hilker is a fourth year medical student at the University of Vermont. Prior to medical school, she worked for Bain & Company as a management consultant. If her story resonated with you, you can reach her at sidneyhilker@gmail.com.
Lara and I hope these stories ward off your Sunday Scaries and bring some inspiration and perspective as you head into the weekend.
