How I Got Here: Kate on tackling imposter syndrome and Cameron on why you should always be interviewing
How do you get rid of imposter syndrome?
Good morning, friends.
I’ve heard a lot about “imposter syndrome” throughout my career.
New beginnings like the start of college, a new job, or business school seem to be a ripe time for leaders to tell the new cohort of students or employees that they are not alone in feeling like they don’t belong or that those around them are far smarter, better, and more qualified.
But I have always been left wondering: what can I actually do to get rid of my imposter syndrome?
Kate Bennett gave me an answer.
On our latest episode of How I Got Here, Kate Bennett, Director of Marketing for MBA Admissions at Harvard Business School (HBS) tells us about how she still deals with imposter syndrome today, but also shares the techniques she uses to manage it.
Kate also offers honest reflections about how she deviated from the career path that most of her colleagues at Bain were on to pursue a different role within Bain that enabled her to have more impact.
Today, Kate’s role at HBS allows her to combine her passion for talent, analytics, and education. If you’ve ever wondered if it’s possible to find a job that fits all your passions together, Kate’s story offers a good example of how to do it.

This week on our blog, we feature career advice from Cameron Cler. She makes a case for why we should always be interviewing for new job opportunities — even when we are satisfied in our current role.
“‘Always be interviewing.’ It sounds counterintuitive and time-consuming to interview for new roles when you enjoy your job or feel lucky to be employed during a pandemic. This practice isn’t about thinking the grass might be greener on the other side. It is more about avoiding looking for new roles when you are more eager or desperate to get out of your current role. While consistent interviewing requires a bit of time and dedication, it has allowed me to navigate my career in a more intentional way and exposed a few unintended benefits along the way.”
